Ice Breaking (sorry... skating)

I'm not quite sure how this came about, but there is a deep seating and pretty convincing arguement that it was in fact one of my brightest ideas ever... but for some completely in explicable reason we decided to go ice skating today.

Off we toddle then full of optimism and confidence, I mean what could possibly go wrong, I've ice skated once before in my ENTIRE life, and Phil had been a few times before, and we both knew that in fact tourvill and dean were amateurs by comparision so we were fully expecting a small miracle on ice as we laced up our boots and hit the ice....

Now when I say "hit" I do in fact mean that literally. I spent more time on my back with my legs in the air than I can ever previously recount, and if I was vertical I was clawing on to the side barrier tighter than a limpet to a rock. Phil on the other hand did slightly better up until the point where the entire ice rink came to a halt because I'd manage to hit my head so hard on the ice the crack reverberated so loudly most people stopped in their tracks to admire the damage I had done to myself.

Cue the good samartian who obiviously decide to take pity on us and promptly decided to tell us the best way to learn to skate was to hurtle down the middle of the rink (yes, no where near any barriers!) and just keep looking forward. Without further ado then off we go, I land flat on my face and now have to partake in the "crawl of shame" from the center of the rink to the barrier because of some in explicable reason my legs don't want to stand up and my feet don't work whilst wearing boots with the equivalent of the blades of death on them.

I probably don't need to explain much further then that we didn't stay long, and considering we paid for the privalege we did pretty well on getting battered and bruised.

Oh, and tourvill and dean need not worry too much either...

Steaming Ahead

train bits
Hard as steel!

Today with little else to do and nothing remotely important on the agenda we decided to expore our local patch a bit more and see what it has on offer in terms of touristic attractions.

It wasn't long before Phil tracked (excuse the pun) down The Buckinghamshire Railway Centre not too far from us so we decided to pay it a visit.

I have to say, the Centre is located at the arse end of nowhere, and you'd have to really want to go, or having done some investigation to know it actually exists, but it was a worth while trip all the same.

We saw lots of cool train "things" and had a ride on a proper steam train - and of course ate ice cream. It was also quite hot considering the time of year.

Oh well, I'm pretty sure Phil got more out of it than me, but it was more productive than sitting around the house all day :-)
